Please do remove it. Ufortunately, yes the TODO list is stale. And thank
you for diving into it !

The export code that exists could use some more tests - copy
testsampler.py and follow its docstring to get a new testsuite. To test
it, I suggest you build a local branch with a directory or two, some
files, some symlinks, make a file executable - try to get solid
coverage, then export it to a dir, and a tar file. Using the python tar
module, you should be able to read that back and check you got what you
thought you would.
