I agree. Splitting out the counting seems like it might be less
confusing for people, while still being accurate.
I personally use 'log --short' all the time, so to me 'missing --long'
is a little bit verbose.

I don't know why, but I'm finding it is much easier for me to parse
paragraphs with blank space than with '-----------'. The line break just
ends up looking like more noise I have to ignore. Especially when I see
a long list of entries.
