The whole point of a FAQ is that it is the Frequently Asked Questions.
It is generally the second page I visit when looking at something new.
(The first page being Screenshots :)

When someone runs into a problem, they have a question. If it is a
common question, it should become part of the FAQ. Having the FAQ easily
reachable means that people who run into problems can quickly check the
FAQ rather than become irritated, or have to join the mailing list.

For example, the xml.pyc stuff should definitely be very accessible from
the main page. Since anyone doing a development snapshot upgrade is
going to run into it. We saw probably 3-4 people bring it up here. I've
ran into it (though I caused it, so I knew what was going on), my
off-list colleague was confused by it. (The biggest problem is that it
complains about sax.saxutils, not xml.sax.saxutils, so it isn't even
obvious that it is importing an xml.py script).

Most sites put the FAQ on the main page, so that is where people look
for it.
