creating checkouts, bound branches and standalone branches from an existing branch

I think I would agree (with some reservations on 'automatic') with
this, but...

I don't like that so much.  That seems a little too much like it
really means --no-seriously-I-really-do-want-a-checkout.

This (or perhaps some other name than 'get') goes down much better
with me.
