Okay. :) Only, I started and it felt awkward to add an option for
specifically that, and I ended up generalizing it a bit. This would be
my first intent to get a big hunk of code commited into mainline, so
let's see how it goes.

I'm sending a first revision, a bit rough and still without tests, to
hear what you think of it, and if it's worth going this way. If you
think so, then we can start going over all the necessary implementation
details. ;-)
