Should this be put in to the documentation for building the packages?
It should avoid the problem for further versions.

John, the failure you were seeing was because you didn't have "quilt"
installed. This should be a Build-Depends, so it should have not
allowed you to build without it. If it does allow you to build then
documenting it would be a good idea (and might be anyway).
