As it has been broken for a while, and obviously doesn't have any tests or users
(otherwise we would get bug reports), I'm fine with nuking it. Otherwise I don't
really like getting rid of a function that has only been deprecated for 1
release. We've had specific complaints about the other functions that we did
that to.
