Previewing changes

Another question I should know the answer to I think...
"bzr missing" is great for checking the changeset state between two
branches. Given their branch has an extra changeset compared to my
branch, what is the officially approved way of previewing the changeset
before applying it (by pull or whatever)?
Perhaps the only mechanism is to merge the changeset, run a diff, and
then back out if the changeset is not wanted? The problem with this is
that you probably end up committing the changes, requiring an extra
commit message when this is not needed. I guess it is possible to back
out of the merge and then do a pull. Of course this also seems
significantly sub-optimal...
