how to selectively commit deletions?

Hello,

today, I run into the following problem:

When a number of changes have occurred, I often commit them in a
piecemeal fashion, so as to group related things together in one commit
instead of committing everything in one go. Today, I wanted to do such
a selective commit on paths I have deleted, but the program (1.5)
wouldn't let me.

I can work around the problem by backing out enough changes to be able
to commit the deletions alone, but that's more work.

I don't know whether this counts as a valid use case.
