How do I update a working tree to an old revision?

There is no way you can delete a revision from the
repository. You may lose the ability to use the revnos iff you
pull from the branch associated with your working tree, but you
aren't doing that right ? :-)
The revids will still be present in the repo anyway but it will
be less convenient to use than the revnos.
