Why commit don't commit files in alphabetical order?

I hope the discussion of this proposed change includes consideration
of performance on commits of large changesets.  We routinely have
changesets of about 1000 elements.  So speed is more important than
beauty for commit.   Hopefully this is a nonissue but call me
paranoid.  :)
