I don't doubt that, but you merely exclude yourself from this concern.
There are many, though, for whom the perception of “Canonical overlord”
*is* a factor; I encounter them a lot when discussing the merits of
Bazaar. I can't see that getting any better now this change is in place.

These are all points that have already been hashed out, though.
