What if the developer branches from the 2.0 series, fixes the bug,
tests, unit-tests and the proposes for merge into 2.0?

As I understand it, ppas are a Ubuntu packaging thing, right? If that's
so, then bear in mind that leaves out Windows users for getting these
features or bug fixes since they will almost certainly depend on the
binary installers built for releases.
