bzr memory usage

I thought I'd measure memory usage of the following command, hoping it 
would be minimal, since it doesn't download any metadata, as I understand 
it.

bzr checkout --lightweight -v lp:gcc gcc-co-light/


The result is that it has been downloading steadily at 500KB/s for more 
than three hours, it has downloaded more than 5GB (the full branch I 
downloaded earlier is 1.2GB as reported by du!), and it has written almost 
*nothing* to disk (???). Its memory usage is indeed lower, "only" at 
240MB, but I'll have to quit since I don't find a meaning anymore.
