I have some server backups scp'd to my ~/Desktop directory on a nightly basis.
When I right-click on one of these approx 4GB files, and select the Properties
action from the context menu I run into a problem. The 
Property window appears but closes before it's populated any of the fields. The
icon for the file in question also disappears. I have to CTRL-r the desktop to
refresh it and the icon appears again.

I have also seen Nautilus crash and restart, but have found it very hard to
reproduce.

Other smaller files don't seem to exhibit this problem, so I'm guessing it's to
do with the file sizes.
