Your bug report gave me an idea... could this crash (somehow) be user specific ?!!
So, I quickly created a new user for test purposes, logged-out... logged-in this
new user account and... oh miracle, Rhythmbox works perfectly !
Back in my own user account.... and it crashes again :o(
I tried what you did, disable (I renamed it) ./gnome2/rhythmbox, but like you
sadly, it didn't change a thing.

Well at least we know it's not a problem with the machine but... the user. Now I
don't have a clue what could differ between the two accounts, that could make it
crash ! :o(
