Right, I fixed some bugs recently which broke automounting, so this part was
probably a duplicate.

As you already said, stopping g-v-m will stop automatic mounting. But starting
from Breezy, gnome-vfs2 has HAL support, too, so it independently is notified
about new devices. I will take a look at it, but I certainly need to bug you
more about help with debugging since I don't have a card reader. But maybe I can
emulate something on my USB stick. :-)

The ugly device names are a known bug, too, also a gnome-vfs2 one. I can't
reproduce this on my installed system, but it seems to happen on the live CD. I
will investigate this, too.

seb128, do you happen to know whether upstream already knows about this bug?
bugzilla.gnome.org seems to be down at the moment...
