Summary: useless disk access when idle
           Product: Ubuntu
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: i386
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: gnome-desktop
        AssignedTo: seb128 at ubuntu.com
        ReportedBy: jvuyl2t02 at sneakemail.com
         QAContact: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com

When logged in under the Gnome Desktop there is a useless disk access even when
the user is doing nothing. On a laptop this is especially stupid sind it
prevents the disk spin down.
This can be shown by gkrellm.
This behaviour doesn't occur under a different window manager such as IceWM.
This behaviour can also be found on Fedora Core 4.
But it's not present on Debian Sarge.
