The backtrace with libc6-dbg was exactly the same, line for line, except for
obviously different hex values. Do I need something else?
I have been able to figure out that other users on the same PC are able to run
gedit without problems, so I'm afraid to say that this is probably user error of
some sort. I've been trying to figure out what is different for my configuration
so that I can close this. I'm the admin and often try new programs from the
repositories and then apt-get remove them, so the diff is huge. I've tried
moving my various .gnome* directories to no avail. I went through the gconf and
set the values under gedit to exactly the same as a working user and it still
crashes.
I probably run gedit twice a year, so this may have been broken a very long
time. I may never have run it under Hoary, for example.
