gnome-icon-theme ships a mail icon for this menu entry now, which fixes the issue:

 gnome-icon-theme (2.11.4-0ubuntu1) breezy; urgency=low
 .
   * New upstream version.
   * debian/gnome-icon-theme.links:
     - the python icon is fixed with the new version.
