Are you using gnome? If yes, do you have gnome-volume-manager installated and
running?

mount for users works only if there is an entry in /etc/fstab for device that is
being mounted.

There is no simple upgrade in Breezy :)

Could you send outputs of lsusb, lshal and mount commands after you connect your
drive? But, don't mount it, just connect it. And, please, tell us do you use
gnome-volume-manager or not.
