vfat volumes are now mounted with the "shortnames=winnt" option since this was
explicitly requested so in bug #8912, it makes the behaviour compatible to
Windows. Also, you can perfectly write lower-case names, they will be preserved
(I suspect Linux always writes long names). Since this bug and #8192 contradict
to each other and I feel that maintaining Windows compatibility is a good thing,
I'm closing this. If you disagree, please raise this topic on the ubuntu-devel
mailing list.
