This has already been fixed in Breezy. Hoary used libesd0 which used the OSS
emulation of ALSA; this blocked the whole device.
Breezy now enables ALSA dmix by default and uses libesd-alsa0. That means that
while esd is running, other applications can open the ALSA interface in parallel.
