Indeed there is a kernel oops which should be fixed; CC'ing our fearless kernel
maintainer.
However, maybe there is a possibility to make hald more robust against this. In
fact the breezy version should already be much more robust since it moves
hardware detection to separate processes; if those crash, they don't take the
main process with them. Maybe you have a chance to upgrade to breezy and try?
I'll leave the bug open until you can.
Still, the kernel bug should be fixed separately.
