Summary: Evolution switches Character encoding without asking
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: i386
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: evolution
AssignedTo: seb128 at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: igel at igels.net
QAContact: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
Evolution switches the character encoding without asking, if the email contains
characters, which are not present in the specified character encoding.
Steps to reproduce:
Click "New" to open the editor window. Fill in "Test" as subject and your own
email address as reciver. Insert "안녕! Grüne Äpfel sind selten süß" as mail
body. Select "Edit" > "Character Encoding" > "Korean (EUC-KR)" (German umlauts
arn't available in EUC-KR) and click on "send". Search the email in your inbox,
select "View" > "Message Display" > "Show email source" and search for the
"Content-Type:" line. You will see, it is changed to UTF-8 (Since that is the
only encoding with German umlauts and Hangeul (Korean alphabet)).
Expected behavior: Show a dialog box before send the email explaining the matter
and show the buttons "Cancel", "Send the email without unprintable characters"
and "Send as UTF-8".
