Summary: Gnome stalls at metacity when logging in
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: i386
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: gnome-session
AssignedTo: seb128 at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: claus at poertner.dk
QAContact: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
After a upgrade of what I believe was gnome-session I can no longer long into
gnome or gnome-failsafe. One change in the behaviour was on log-out where one
can save the session. Previously gnome simply saved the session and logged out.
Now when I check "Save current setup" on the "Log out" screen I instead get a
message saying that the session has been saved, but after that gnome simply
returns without logging out. After then logging out without checking "Save
current setup" and subsequently logging in again gnome stalls when loading
metacity (for both gnome and gnome-failsafe). The only way to get back into
gnome is to manually delete the file "session" under ~/.gnome2/ (by going to
the console) and then restart gdm.
The version number for gnome-session is "2.12.0-0ubuntu1". In case the problem
is metacity the version is "1:2.12.1-0ubuntu1". I am not sure how to check when
these packages were upgraded, but would be happy to provide the information if I
can get a bit of direction. One of the nice things about having the workspaces
is the ability to between sessions to keep things the same place, so I hope
there is some way of reverting to the original behaviour.
