Summary: Menu editor difficult to use.. requesting better.
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: i386
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: gnome-panel
AssignedTo: seb128 at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: ubuntu at kidsquid.com
QAContact: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
Back in Warty, there was the "Win95-style" (if you will) style of editing menus,
where each menu was a folder. This was easy to use, because I could drag and
drop menu items, although choosing an order wasn't possible.
In Hoary afaik there was no way to edit menus.
Now, in Breezy, there is a menu editor, but it is locked down.. I can't just
drag and drop or delete stuff.. I have to go through a program, then click New
Entry, etc. It is very inconvienient. I have resorted to storing icons in a
folder so that I can create them easily, move them around, delete them, rename
them.. etc.
I request that there be "Win98-style" (or XP, for that matter) menu editing. In
those environments I can drag and drop items onto the menu, move them around
with the mouse, right-click them and rename them, delete them, etc. It is
extremely intuitive. Also it would allow me to delete the duplicated menu items
I have in my Preferences and Administration menus.
Please also bring back applications:/// or some equivalent. Sometimes it is the
easiest way to get things done. I'm not sure how such a useful feature could
disappear.
Please, I beg you guys to bring back modern and usable menu editing.
Thanks.
