Summary: xserver dies when switching vts on login
           Product: Ubuntu
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: Other
        OS/Version: other
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: gdm
        AssignedTo: seb128 at ubuntu.com
        ReportedBy: spotter at cs.columbia.edu
         QAContact: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com

I'm really unsure where to file this bug, basically, I'm using ati (firegl in a
T42p). I use gdm to login. If I login, then quickly switch to vf1 (for
instance to login as root and check some network settings while gnome is
starting up). If I then swithc back to vt7 (i.e. X), I see my X session, but
then it quickly dies and gdm restarts (now on vt8 as I'm occupying vt7 with my
blank screen).

unsure where the bug is, but it's existed for a while.
