I found out the settings are stored in gnome-volume-manager.schemas
a quick locate gave me this:
/etc/gconf/schemas/gnome-volume-manager.schemas
/usr/share/gconf/schemas/gnome-volume-manager.schemas

It seems the former has the gnome-cd setting which is currently being used, and the latter has the user defined 
setting (sound-juicer). 

Now what?
