I found the error. After the upgrade, it seems that the 'Local' combox box (under the General tab, greeter) went 
empty, hence not configured. I selected 'Themed Greeter' and everything is now fine.

This is fixed on my box, but I dont know if this is reproducible on other boxes after an upgrade.
