This looks really weird:

  volume.disc.is_rewritable = true  (bool)
  volume.disc.is_appendable = false  (bool)
  volume.disc.is_blank = false  (bool)
  volume.disc.has_data = false  (bool)
  volume.disc.has_audio = true  (bool)
  volume.disc.type = 'cd_rw'  (string)

This would fit perfectly well to a rewritable audio disc, but not to a r/o video
DVD. Can you please generate a hal debugging output as described on the second
half of

  http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingRemovableDevices

and an lshal output for the two cases (1. insert DVD directly after boot, and 2.
insert DVD after having inserted and removed a normal CD).
