Ubuntu | epiphany-browser
Summary: Address bar Google searches broken
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: i386
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: epiphany-browser
AssignedTo: seb128 at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: mail at theantix.org
QAContact: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
Description:
Epiphany does not return google searches in the address bar, resulting in error
messages and unintended pages loading. The intended behaviour worked on
previous versions of Epiphany in Breezy, and in the final versions of Hoary and
Warty.
I checked the changelogs, it does not appear to be a obvious change in either
Epiphany or Ubuntu policy to change this behaviour. The current behaviour is
similar to Firefox, but as Epiphany does not ship with a google search box so
this is an serious usability bug as it prevents easy web searches as intended by
Epiphany.
Steps to reproduce:
Case 1. In the address bar, type in a single word "ubuntu" and press Enter.
Case 2. In the address bar, type in two words "ubuntu linux" and press Enter.
Actual results:
1. Ubuntu.com is loaded
2. An error dialog "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded."
Expected results:
For both cases, Epiphany should return a google search for items entered into
the address bar.
System information:
Tested on two Breezy systems, both completely up to date 01 Sep 2004, Ubuntu
package epiphany-browser_1.7.6-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
