FWIW, I have pretty much the same problem, it is half detected (after upgrading
hal), but things fail to mount as expected with identical output from the pmount
command. (IBM x31, CF card from an IXUS camera)

Interestingly, nautilus finds the volume, g-v-m asks about importing the photos,
then I click cancel, and then nautilus(?) says "Couldn't find
"/media/CF_CARD256M".".
