Hoary & Breezey

On my display (old ATI Rage 128) GDM first flashes screen to white/gray and then
displays the backgound image very slowly.  I watch it roll down the screen.  If
the rest of the desktop behaved this way (i.e. personal desktop wallpaper
setting) I wouldn't necessarily file this as a bug. But my GNOME desktop
wallpaper just appears - no flash to white/gray and no rolling down the screen.
