i vote for: "check if the user is in the right groups on startup"
The Modem applet Properties option should still require root privs. once that
is setup, the user shuold be able to start/stop the connection if they are in
the dialout group.
Also, system->Admin->Users/Groups, select a user, hit Properties->User Privleges
- there are 2 options:
1. Connect to Internet using a Modem
2. Use Modems
1 puts the user in the DIP group, 2 in the dialout.
Not really sure what right is, but this doesn't seem like it.
I think send and recieve faxes would be driven by "use modem" and maybe even
dial a voice line (like from a phone list) The help for User/groups doen't
menton this, nor does anything make it cleare what groups those "User privs" map
to. for the most part, this is a non issue and I would get rid of most of them.
because dialing a phone can cost money, that is the only option I would bother
making easy to turn on/off. the rest can be handeled under groups add/remove users.
