In short: looks like the problem is gone, feel free to close the bug, I will reopen if I am able to reproduce it and provide more info.

I haven't answered because I was having trouble with valgrind, when I ran evolution inside valgrind, it was unable to retrieve new mail (asked me for the password all the time, even thought if I was running evo before or after without valgrind it didn't asked for it a single time), and it was not crashing, eventhough it was when I ran it out of valgrind.

Now it looks like the problem is gone, or at least I am not able to reproduce it anymore (maybe my system was having such a hard time because I had two conflicting modules loaded for my soundcard).
