I did try the foo2zjs package, but it didn't work. The issue apparently is not that there is a bad driver but that even after selecting the correct driver (m2300w), this selection somehow gets lost.

According to

Minolta Magicolor 2400 W

is not supported (that printer doesn't use Zenographics ZjStream wire protocol ).
