Fantastic.  Thanks.  I thought I was going nuts.  Works great now.

The file "/usr/share/doc/gstreamer0.10-plugins-base/README" states:

"This module contains elements for, among others:

  device plugins: x(v)imagesink, alsa, v4lsrc, cdparanoia
  containers: ogg
  codecs: vorbis, theora
  text: textoverlay, subparse
  sources: sinesrc," etc...

This should probably be updated to keep clowns like me from looking for sinesrc when we really want to use audiotestsrc.
