I'm sorry, now I can't even reproduce the bug on my own. I managed to trigger the bug several times on a Pentium 4 machine with a GeForce 3 Ti 200 video card and nvidia non-legacy drivers (normal Xorg server). I think the problem may have been due to an overheating processor and/or graphics card (it's very hard to keep that Pentium 4 cool in the tropics). Now that it's had a chance to cool down on its own, it isn't crashing.

I can't reproduce the problem on another machine running an AMD64 processor.

So feel free to close this bug. I'm sorry for the false report. If I can trigger the bug again and determine that it's not due to overheating, I'll reopen the bug.
