Public bug reported:

Affects: gstreamer0.8 (Ubuntu)
       Severity: Normal
       Priority: (none set)
         Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
My last Dapper upgrade via synaptic froze. Every time I try to run

sudo dpkg --configure -a

now it immediately stalls at:

Setting up gstreamer0.8-gnomevfs (0.8.12-1ubuntu2) ...

Killing all the gst* related processes gets the following:

matt at Newcastle:~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
Setting up gstreamer0.8-gnomevfs (0.8.12-1ubuntu2) ...
dpkg: error processing gstreamer0.8-gnomevfs (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script killed by signal (Terminated)
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of gstreamer0.8-plugins:
 gstreamer0.8-plugins depends on gstreamer0.8-gnomevfs (>= 0.8.12); however:
Package gstreamer0.8-gnomevfs is not configured yet.
dpkg: error processing gstreamer0.8-plugins (--configure):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Setting up gstreamer0.8-cdparanoia (0.8.12-1ubuntu2) ...

And now it's locked up again, with 4 copies of gst-compprep-0.8 (6 MB, uninterruptible) and one of gstreamer0.8-cd (1.3 MB, sleeping) hanging out in System Monitor.
