Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

Not sure if this counts as a bug but I find it user-unfriendly and it works better in other distros. The difficulty arises because I like to use gedit to jot down stuff (web addresses etc) whiile working on another desktop. Then I can switch back to the desktop with gedit when I need to. But if I do not switch back to the desktop wih gedit and forget that I have not saved or closed gedit and want to shut down:
Do this:- click on icon to shut down PC.
Result:- nothing appears to happen. I cannot switch to the desktop with the unsaved gedit to save my file or contnue working or shutdown. Checking carefully the thumbnail with gedit shows another window has opened (presumably warning me to save my work) but not on the desktop on which I am stranded. There is no way to save my work though I can continue the shutdown and lose the work in gedit as described below.
Work around: i) ctrl-alt-backspace or switch to another console then ii) shutdown or iii) kill gedit
My setup: gedit 2.14.4 running on Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper)
PC: Acer 4652LMI
Would be nice if the window to save my work came up on the desk-top I was using...

** Affects: gedit (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Untriaged
         Status: Unconfirmed

** Description changed:
