Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: hal
When I insert a CD or a DVD (either with data, audio, or blank), the
desktop icon (and in the System nautilus window) appears and quickly
disappears. When I start hal-device-manager, under the "IDE Device
(Master)" entry, I see the DVD reader entry (HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4167B
for me ...) but no volume entry below !!!
If I eject the CD/DVD and insert it again, everything is working
perfectly ... a new entry "Unknown device" whose type is "volume"
appears in hal-device-manager under the DVD reader one. The icon appear
on the desktop, and the CD/DVD is available in the System nautilus
window.
When a CD/DVD is inserted for the first time, and thus not properly
recognized by hal, I can mount it manually anyway ... so everything is
ok kernel-side. Weird.
Unfortunately I haven't found anything relevant in /var/log/messages ...
But the fact that I see the CD desktop icon appearing during a brief
time and then disappearing may be a sign of Hal "thinking" that the CD
has been ejected ?
** Affects: hal (Ubuntu)
Importance: Untriaged
