I have the same problem, but only after upgrading from Breezy to Dapper
a few months ago. The most anoying thing is when starting gnome, gnome-
setting-daemon keeps on restarting thus changing the the theme as fast
as it can. For now I just renamed liboil-0.3.so.0*. No more problem
exept that every gstreamer apps does not work.
Here's the output of running totem on the command line:
OIL: ERROR liboiltest.c 359: oil_test_check_impl(): illegal instruction in mt19937_i386_mmx_3
Illegal instruction
Output of gnome-setting-daemon:
OIL: ERROR liboiltest.c 359: oil_test_check_impl(): illegal instruction in mt19937_i386_mmx_3
Illegal instruction
I tryed installing older version from debian, same problem. I tryed
recompiling the .deb, same problem. I traced in liboil, found the code
that does the illegal instruction, but did not want to start debuging
assembly, so I stopped there.
I'll find that function again and will post it, but for now I must get
to work.
Here's a post on a french forum where a bunch of other people have the same problem:
