apport crash files are not useful for python programs at the moment.
Could you look to .xsession-errors if you have any python backtrace?
Otherwise could you remove deskbar-applet from the panel and then run
/usr/lib/deskbar-applet/deskbar-applet from a command line and add it to
the panel from the "add to panel" dialog then? If it crashes you should
get the backtrace on the command line then
