Hi, now I've got Ubuntu 6.10 with Gnome 2.16.1 and KDE 3.5.3 , and still having the same problem.
The problem begins when I see a dialog in Gnome telling me that the configuration of the Keyboard (with Gnome) doesn't match with the Xkb settings; and I have to choose to continue with Gnome keyboard settings or to switch to Xkb keyboard settings.
If you choose to stay with Gnome keyboard settings, ALL the KDE applications will run with a "bad" keyboard (when you enter a eñe or something with accent {à,á,é...} it does display another character)
Here is a demonstration:
KDE Correct word
Eñe -> Eñe
ValÚncia -> València
Català -> Català
I've tried to change settings in KDE control center, but stills failing.
The outpout of gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd
is:
layouts = [es cat,es]
model = itouch
options = [grp grp:alts_toggle]
overrideSettings = true
Salutations, thanks
