Thank you for your bug. The package is not built with that option on
purpose:

" gaim (1:2.0.0+beta5-4) unstable; urgency=medium
...
  * Don't build with Cyrus-SASL, support is too unstable
    (Closes: #400002, 401295)..."

The Depends bug has been fixed to Debian and to Ubuntu with the new sync
with Debian
