[Bug 74939] laptop screen brightness issue

I have IBM ThinkPad Z60m with Ubuntu 6.10 installed.
If I press "Fn+increase/decrease brightness" while in gdm login screen, it works fine, i.e. increases/decreases brightness by one step.
But after login I get the following effect: when I press "Fn+increase brightness" it begins continuously increase brightness until it reaches max or I press "Fn+increase brightness" again. Actually it gets from min to max within a second, so it's hard to get desired brightness.

I remember that I had seen this bug with the same laptop in dapper betas
but this was fixed shortly after dapper release.
