I made a fresh install of dapper in vmware, with /home on a separate
partition. I was unable to reproduce the bug.
Then I moved the user's home directory into /, umounted /home and then
moved the user's home dir into /home (i.e. not as a separate partition
anymore). I was still unable to reproduce the bug.
Here is the output of /proc/mounts (after I umounted /home):
rootfs / rootfs rw 0 0
none /sys sysfs rw 0 0
none /proc proc rw,nodiratime 0 0
udev /dev tmpfs rw 0 0
/dev/sda1 / ext3 rw,data=ordered 0 0
/dev/sda1 /dev/.static/dev ext3 rw,data=ordered 0 0
tmpfs /var/run tmpfs rw 0 0
tmpfs /var/lock tmpfs rw 0 0
tmpfs /lib/modules/2.6.15-26-386/volatile tmpfs rw 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts rw 0 0
tmpfs /dev/shm tmpfs rw 0 0
tmpfs /var/run tmpfs rw 0 0
tmpfs /var/lock tmpfs rw 0 0
