I have the missing about box on an xubuntu edgy amd64. I also have a xubuntu edgy x86 install on another box that does not have the problem. Running gnumeric from the command line causes no output on either box when clicking help -> about. -- Gnumeric "About" box does not appear https://launchpad.net/bugs/50783
