Hmm, I can't reproduce it with those instructions =)

But, I've found something that might be the reason. Add
"grabDesktopImages: True" in ~/.xscreensaver, then choose
AntSpotlight/Flipscreen3d/MirrorBlob as the screensaver, and lock the
screen. Here it fades out, then returns to desktop but you don't have
keyboard until gnome-screensaver is killed. I've added some info
upstream, but I'd hope if someone else could test this as well, because
I'm not sure anymore how "clean" my workstation is..
